Note:-

* Twenty-two incarnations have been enumerated here, but twenty-four incarnations of the Lord are famous. Some scholars complete the number of twenty-four in this way – apart from Ram-Krishna, there are twenty incarnations mentioned above; The remaining four incarnations are parts of Shri Krishna only. Shri Krishna himself is the complete God; He is not an Avatar, he is an Avatari. That's why Shri Krishna is not counted in the count of incarnations. His four parts are – one is the incarnation of Keshka, the second is the incarnation of Sutapa and Prishni, the third is Sankarshana – Balarama and the fourth is Parabrahma. In this way, Lord Vasudev is the fifth person distinct from these four incarnations. Other scholars believe that twenty-two incarnations are mentioned above; Apart from these, there are two more – Hansa and Hayagriva.

As thousands of small streams emerge from the bottomless lake, similarly there are innumerable incarnations of Sattvanidhi Lord Sri Hari. Rishis, Manu, deities, Prajapati, Manuputras and all the great mighty ones are all part and parcel of the Lord. All these incarnations are incarnations of God, but Lord Krishna is God Himself (incarnation). When people are distressed by the tyranny of the demons, the Lord protects them by assuming many forms in different ages. This story of the divine births of the Lord is very secretive and mysterious; The person who recites it regularly in the evening and in the morning with a concentrated mind, he is freed from all sorrows.

Source of information- Bhagavat Sudha Sagar
(First Iskand, 3rd chapter)

In the beginning of creation, God desired to create worlds. As soon as he wished, he took the Viratrupa and expanded Yoga sleep while sleeping in the water of reason, then a lotus appeared from his navel-sarovar and from that lotus Brahmaji, the ruler of Prajapatis, was born.

All the worlds have been conceived in the part of this Viratrupa of the god, that is the pure Sattvamay superior form of God. This Purusha form, which is called Narayana, is the source of all avatars. Lord Narayana took infinite avatars to establish Dharma and eliminate evil, but among them 24 avatars are very famous which are written in Bhagavat Purana. Let’s know all the 24 avatars and reason behind them in brief.
